Create a Safety DNA

One of our strategic focus areas is developing a strong Safety DNA across Kinaxia. Significant progress has been made so far this year, including a surge in near miss reporting, reductions in vehicle accidents and lost time injuries, and the rollout of “days accident free” boards. More than 2000 hours of in-person training, such as IOSHH Managing Safely courses, First Aid and Mental Health First Aid, Fire Warden and mock trials, is strengthening safety culture at all levels. Ongoing site audits and compliance initiatives further drive continuous improvement and reinforce our commitment to safety excellence throughout the business.

Highlights include:

  • Near miss reporting 76.5% up versus last year – that’s 761 more reports! Fantastic progress being made and we look forward to this trend continuing throughout the year.
  • Lost Time Accidents reduced by 33% versus last year. A clear indication of the increased focus and commitment to safety at all levels.
  • Vehicle accidents reduced by 22% versus last year, despite substantially higher mileage over the same period!

Round-Up:

“Days accident free” boards are being rolled out across the business!

The Daventry warehouse is currently top of the leader board with over 1000 lost time accident-free days!

We rolled out IOSHH Managing Safely courses with 25 senior colleagues so far this year, with a 100% pass rate, improving risk assessment and safety awareness in leadership is core to our mission of creating a Safety DNA across the business. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you for engaging with the programme. More IOSHH Managing Safely courses will be rolled out later in the year.

Two mock trial sessions were held in March with 48 colleagues in attendance – the session delivered an immersive realistic experience of the stark consequences of a serious incident taking place at work and the HSE court hearing, with colleagues playing members of the jury in a replay of a real life scenario adapted for the educational demonstration.

Compliance

Transport compliance is vital at Kinaxia because it ensures the safety of our colleagues, protects our reputation, and upholds our commitment to responsible transport operations. By rigorously adhering to regulations and best practices, we minimise risks, maintain efficient operations, and demonstrate our dedication to continuous improvement and excellence throughout the business.

On-site audits will commence soon – working with all depots, an independent specialist in Operators Licence compliance will be conducting onsite audits to ensure our practices adhere to expectations, enabling us to share best practice across the business and continuously challenge ourselves to improve our systems and processes.

We’ll be running Transport Manager refresher courses throughout May and July, bringing colleagues together. These courses are invaluable, ensuring our teams remain up to date with evolving regulations, industry best practices, and safety standards. Regular training also helps reinforce key compliance responsibilities, supporting managers in maintaining efficient operations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the business.

Bridge strike Prevention

Bridge strike Prevention Packs were recently re-trained out across the whole business and this critical area remains a high priority focus of Driver safety.  Our Driver re-training is designed as a reminder, ensuring our Drivers are informed and  supported to make sound decisions on route planning, use appropriate sat-nav applications and carry out essential trailer height checks correctly and logged onto Checked-safe.

Any Driver queries or training requirements should be directed to local Transport Office teams.

Samsara

Southampton, Warrington, Manchester and Rugby fleets have now been fully fitted out with the latest Samsara telematics technologies, and we’re already seeing the positive impact of this powerful technology, with improved fuel consumption (MPG) through better driving standards and less idling.

This technology has been invaluable:

  • allowing swift incident investigations and proving third party fault
  • alerting us to health incidents and allowing prompt support for the Driver
  • minimising risk to Drivers and removing potential blame

Telford roll out is underway, due to compete in May and Stockport will soon be getting started.

People & Culture Update

At Kinaxia, colleague engagement is about listening, acting, and improving how we work together across all sites.

Over the past year, our People & Culture team have been building strong foundations, reviewing the strategy and initiatives to ensure we continue to develop colleague experience while aligning with business priorities. Absence, Training, Employee Retention and Recruitment have all significantly improved since last year and this trend is continuing through 2026 so far.

We’ve made strong progress against the actions raised through colleague feedback. Across Kinaxia sites, 107 engagement actions have been recorded and 76 have already been completed!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed ideas and helped deliver improvements locally. If you have suggestions, you can share them quickly by using the QR feedback code on your site noticeboards or by following the “Virtual Suggestion Box” on this site under Quick Links.

At several locations, driver representatives attend regular driver forums to discuss welfare, facilities and ways of working, and to agree practical improvements. Where driver forums are not yet in place, we will introduce them during 2026. If you’d like to get involved as a representative, please speak to your line manager or contact HR.

We’ve also launched a new Employee Assistance Programme: WeCare from Canada Life. This confidential service is available 24/7 and offers wellbeing support, guidance and expert advice for you and your family. Find out more by following the link on the Colleague Benefits section.

Finally, we’re continuing to focus on development and compliance. Mandatory training completion is now just over 40%, and we’re encouraging colleagues to finish any outstanding modules with their manager’s support.

We’ll also be rolling out sexual harassment awareness training for all colleagues soon, with additional training for managers, in line with upcoming legal changes from October 2026.
